Dr. Shah
Dr. Karan Shah’s journey to dentistry started with his family's ideals of service to the community. Through dentistry he enjoys the ability to make a big impact on someone's life and overall well-being, while deriving constant personal growth and the immense satisfaction of working with his hands.
Dr. Shah first started his education in India where he earned his bachelor’s degree in dental surgery. He then moved to the United States to continue his education at the University of North Texas, earning a master’s in public health. He earned a Doctorate in Dental Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Shah moved to Texas immediately after graduation, and has worked in San Antonio since 2017. He will take any opportunity to attend continuing education, and enjoys the continuous learning required to keep up with innovations in the field.
Dr. Shah is an outgoing, curious, and empathetic dentist who always takes his time with his patients. His goal of working in a patient-centered office led him to partner with Special Need Dental. His special interests in dentistry include comprehensive dental care, full mouth rehabilitation, implant surgery, and aesthetic dentistry. Outside of work you may run into Dr. Shah at your local hiking trails or new restaurants. He loves meeting new people, travelling, biking, playing tennis, board games, and watching TV.
Dr. Ferguson
Dr. Ferguson grew up in Lansing, Michigan. He has commented that “I couldn’t choose where I was born, but I got to Texas as fast as I could.” Dr. Ferguson benefitted from braces as a child. He recalls what a difference in made in his self-confidence and wanted to help others in the same way.
Dr. Ferguson graduated at the top of his dental school class at The Ohio State University. He practiced as a general dentist for a year before returning for specialized training in orthodontics at Jacksonville University. Upon graduation he was awarded the prestigious Theodore Jerrold award as the top orthodontic resident.
Dr. Ferguson feels Special Need Dental provides an important service in providing beautiful healthy smiles to patients with special needs.
Dr. Ferguson has been married for 17 years to his sweetheart, April, whom he met while he was working as a waiter on a train in Alaska. They have 6 energetic children that keep them very busy (and yes, almost all of them will probably need braces). Dr. Ferguson acknowledges that he has an incredible team around him both at home and at work. He truly loves what he does and is excited to get to know you and find out how he can help you get the smile you want.
